Information regarding the HSC examinations in Languages Background Speakers from 2010
Applies to the Background Speakers courses in Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese and Korean.
Decisions made by the Board of Studies in December 2008 have resulted in changes to some HSC examinations in 2010 and beyond.
In the Languages Background Speakers HSC examinations in 2010 and beyond:
- in Section III, there will be a choice of two tasks both requiring the same text type, rather than the current choice of three that may be of different text types
Questions in the 2010 Languages Background Speakers HSC examination will contain the same range of item types as in the past. The objectives, outcomes and content of this course have not changed. Working through past HSC examinations would be a valuable part of a student’s preparation program for the 2010 HSC examination in this course. The nature, format and particular emphasis of questions may change from year to year. It is important that students read and respond to the questions in examinations rather than prepare a response to a preconceived idea of what the question will entail.
The Board also decided that rubrics be amended (where necessary) to ensure that, in the marking of responses, due emphasis is placed on the structure and organisation of responses, the quality of the arguments and explanations, and the relevance of the content to the question asked.
More details about the examinations, and information about assessment components and weightings are in Assessment and Reporting in Languages Background Speakers Stage 6 (PDF).
