Replacement Certificates
The Office of the Board of Studies provides replacement statements for lost or mislaid certificates issued by the Board of Studies, past Boards or the New South Wales Department of Education. Replacement statements can be provided for the following NSW public examination certificates:
- Intermediate Certificate (to 1964)
- Leaving Certificate (to 1966)
- School Certificate (from 1965)
- Higher School Certificate (from 1967)
- TER (Tertiary Entrance Rank) (to 1996 only)
- Year 10, 11 or 12 Statement of Attainment/Result Notice
The Office of the Board of Studies does not hold, and cannot replace, school reports. Applications for replacement certificates can be made only by mail or in person at the Board's office, Level 5, 117 Clarence Street, Sydney. Applications can not be made by fax or online because certified documents must be provided.
Fees
There is a search fee for replacement certificates. Fees can be paid by cash (in person only) or by money order or credit card authority (Visa or Mastercard only). Please note that personal cheques cannot be accepted. See details on the application form which may be printed from this site - see below. Search fees payable (includes GST) are as follows:
- $36.00 per Certificate
- $51.00 priority service per Certificate (24 hours processing from receipt of application)
- $20.00 TER only
- $34.00 priority service TER only (24 hours processing from receipt of application)
Evidence Required
Replacement certificates are provided only to the person named on the certificate. Applicants attending in person must bring to the Board's office one of the following:

their passport
or -
their driver's licence
or -
their proof of age card
or - their Birth Certificate.
Applications by mail must include a completed application form, payment (DO NOT send cash by post) and one of the following:

a certified copy* of the main page of the person's passport
or -
a certified copy* of the person's driver's licence
or -
a certified copy* of the person's proof of age card
or - a certified copy* of the person's Birth Certificate.
* A certified copy is a photocopy which has been compared with the original and endorsed as a true copy by a Justice of the Peace or a public officer such as a police officer. The Justice of the Peace must include their Justice of the Peace identification number and signature on the copy. A public officer must include their full name, position, title and signature on the copy. For people living outside Australia, certification must be made by an Australian Embassy, a Notary, or an office of the British Council.
Note: Where a copy of a passport main page or of a driver's licence is provided and the name is different from that at the time of the examination, a copy of Marriage Certificate or other document of name change must be provided.
