This edition was produced following a comprehensive review of the 2002 ACE Manual. It provides information to teachers and schools regarding the requirements under the Education Act for School Certificate and Higher School Certificate.

The following points highlight some of the key elements of revision in the 2005 manual.

Structure of the ACE Manual

Key elements in the revised structure include:

  • streamlining of information and elimination of unnecessary repetition with a subsequent decrease in the length of the manual and a reduction in the number of sections
  • a single section on School Certificate and HSC special examination provisions
  • a single section on School Certificate and HSC appeals
  • an introductory section about the Board of Studies
  • an appendix: Education Act 1990 Extracts
  • changes to the sequencing of sections and sub-sections.

Years 7-10 Courses and the School Certificate

Key elements include information about:

  • the new Years 7-10 syllabuses
  • School Certificate credentialling for 2006 and beyond
  • Computing Skills Test requirements and eligibility
  • procedures relating to Years 7-10 courses based on Life Skills outcomes and content
  • external providers and outside tutors
  • procedures for 'N' determinations.

Higher School Certificate

Key elements include information about:

  • Board Developed and Board Endorsed Courses available for the HSC
  • exclusions related to Board Developed and Board Endorsed HSC courses
  • eligibility for Continuers courses in languages where there are Background Speakers courses
  • eligibility for Beginners courses in languages
  • eligibility declarations relating to English as a Second Language (ESL), Continuers
    and Beginners Languages courses
  • external providers and outside tutors
  • content of performances and submitted works
  • health and safety issues in the development and selection of students' projects/major works
  • procedures for 'N' determinations.
